Reykjavik and the rest of Iceland lay on the mid-Atlantic ridge. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is a divergent tectonic plate boundary located on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. It is the worlds largest mountain range and has a lot of volcanic activity. Volcanic activity is what created the large island called Iceland. Azores, Portugal also lays on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Azores, just like Iceland, came from volcanic activity.
